LABOR MARKET STATISTICS

Labor Market Indicators

Employment Research Corporation conducts ongoing studies of trends in the labor market by occupation using labor market indicators developed by Dr. Malcolm Cohen.  These indicators can be useful in determining whether occupations are experiencing shortages or surpluses of workers.  The information can be examined on a global, national, or local basis.

Information from the indicators can be useful in understanding trends in employment, for example, whether an employer is likely to face difficulty finding employees in a given occupation and geographic area, or whether a job seeker is likely to have difficulty finding a job in a given occupation and area.  Our understanding of labor market statistics also enables us to interpret the meaning of Bureau of Labor Statistics releases on employment and unemployment.
